Took a day trip today and found some great finds!

Hi my Prims,

Mr. Hillcrest and I took off for the day for a day trip and found some great finds that we could not pass up. We are really enjoying decroating our homestead with alot of antiques!

Here is some things that we did get today...
What a beauty and we could not pass this up the price was to good so it has a new home here behind Hillcrest Homestead!

This was a cool antique item. It is a cabbage slicer, can you believe that. It is also a slicer for alot of other things like vegetables and fruits!!!

I wanted to show you how this box moves back and forth and here is the third picture..
We just found this a cool item. The gentlemen that sold us this told us the story behind it. It was in a barn that he and his wife bought many years ago and they did alot of research on this and that is how they found out about this slicer. The family that lived there ran a farm and it went down to each son and then the last son sold it and everything in the barn and now the slicer it has a new home and will be sent down from generation to generation in our family.
I also bought a very old coverlet with holes in it and everthing and I just fell in love with it, his wife found this also in the barn as well and had in their farmhouse until she passed and she just adored it and when he saw how excited I was about it he gave it to us for a great deal because he said he could tell it was going to a great home. Here is a picture of it...
Here is a close up picture of the print and the color of it..

I am honored to have a piece of history and that I will be able to preserve it for years to come.

Here is a small different kind of crock that we really liked and now we have to find a home for it, I am sure that will not be hard to do.

Here is another blue jar for our collection and we LOVE it!!

Here is some old baby shoes that I have been wanting very bad, but I have been very picky about the pair I wanted and when I saw this pair today I knew this was the pair for my new collection.
Another view.

So now I want to show you what I did with the table I bought and we decided to keep it wood and NOT paint it!!!
Here is a couple of pictures of it..
So there you go. I will be tweaking here and there all week but that is the fun of it!

I also want to let you know that Tammy at The Primitive Place is doing another really fun swap to join. I joined it and I wanted to let you all know to go to her blog and check it out. Tammy ALWAYS  does alot of fun things for us gals and I know I really enjoy them. Also the "GIFT JUST BECAUSE" the bonnet she sent me I posted that she made it she didn't it is an OLD VINTAGE BONNET, I am a very lucky girl to have such a great treasure and Tammy's friendship!

I hope you all have a great night and week and please be kind to each other.

Look at what I got and pictures of my Great-grandparents!

Hi My Prims,
Yesterday I went to a shop and I found this table which I am going to use as a coffee table in the livingroom! I have seen this table in another magazine and it is painted and I am thinking of painting this as well!
Here is a picture of the table, I love the shape of it and the other picture is going to show you the inside and how I can  store all my colonial and primitive magazines!!!

Here is the inside...
I LOVE it!!! It was a great find and I have been looking for that right piece for awhile now and I found it. Sometimes when you are looking for something  just right it might take awhile and it is worth the wait, as my Grandmother would say"don't settle"!!!
Boy that is true in MANY different ways, which I have learned this past month!!!

Here is two pictures of what I put out on my kitchen sill last night...
another view....
I just want all of you to know that I am Irish and my Great-grandparents came from Ireland and I will be putting out some Irish items because we DO celebrate St. Patrick's Day here. I just put out some Spring things like eggs and pot flowers etc. because I know that I am sick of the cold weather and this just gives us hope that Spring will be on it's way SOON! Today they said a mix of snow and rain and Sunday snow, as of now but the weather changing from minute to mintue!LOL!!

Now, I want to share with you some pictures of my Great-grandparents and my Grandmother when she was young, I was VERY close to her. I spent my school vacations with her and the weekend and then after church on Sunday I would walk to her home that was only up the street from our church, how I miss her.
I am the woman I am today because of her.

Here is my Great-grandparents, my Great grand father always had a cigar and his suspenders and my Great grandmother always had on her apron. That picture of her looks just like my grandmother when my grandmother got older.
My Great-grandfather John and my Great-grandmother Margaret. She passed away in her 90's and I remember going to her home and smelling homemade bread she was baking, right when you got to the door you could smell it. She was ALWAYS baking cookies and all different kinds of breads and ALWAYS cooking something yummy!!!! You would always find her wearing her apron
Leaving Northern Ireland........................
Soon after my Great grandparents were married they left Ireland to come to America for a better life for their family that they were going to have which of course included my Grandmother.

Here is the whole family...

Back row standing left to right was my Aunt Margaret,my Aunt Rheta, (my Grandmother) Gladyce and(my great grandmother Maggie) that is what they called her, do to the fact they named their first daughter Margaret.

Front row kneeling or sitting left to right was my Aunt Dot, my great grandfather, my Uncle Johnny and my Aunt Inez.

My Grandmother is on the left!! BEAUTIFUL!!!! My Grandmother loved to dance. She was quite good at the Charleston and she taught me how to do that dance and I really enjoyed doing it with her. This picture you see above is of her and her best friend Mary Clark which later became her sister-in-law.The outfits they are wearing they made. The shirts and jackets they made and even crocheted the edges of their jackets and then later that week they went to a big dance in Mendon, MA. and from the stories that my Grandmother told me she was the 1st one up there dancing up a storm!!! She was not shy. I am very blessed to have such GREAT memories and great stories that she told me and I am able to pass that on to our sons.
I was very lucky to have her as my Grandmother. She passed away in Nov.22 of 1986 but she was able to see me graduate and she was SO proud of me. She was not just my Grandmother she was a mother and my Best friend. She is the one that taught me how to cook and bake and knit and sew. She taught me the most impotant thing and that was LIFE!!!!!!!! I miss her as much as the day she went home to be with her parents and the Lord.
I LOVE YOU GRANDMA AND WILL SEE YOU AGAIN!!

Here is a picture of my Great-grandparents 50th Wedding Anniversary!!!
I look at my Great grandfather's face and laugh because he just has that" LOOK"
like 50 years HOLY MOLY!!!

Well there you go a little history of my family background!

I hope you enjoyed it, I just wanted to do something different.

Til next time be kind to one another.

Is Spring Here Yet?????

Hi my Prims,

I wanted to show you a few pictures of some Spring items that I have put out because I don't know about the rest of you but I CAN'T wait til Spring comes and I can work in my gardens and sit on my deck with ice tea and feel the sun hit my face.
So here are a few extra goodies I put out. I hope you enjoy..

Some carrots I made and I added a couple of prim eggs in my wooden bowl. I put this display on my stove board that I am always changing for VERY holiday.

Here is another display on my stove board with small gourds, I think they are to darn cute.

Here is the picture of the whole display put together, if you have noticed the stove board isn't on my stove because I was cooking something in the oven!!!!

In the livingroom I added a couple of prim carrots in my wooden bowl.

A friend sent this to me years ago and I just love it,I can't wait to see the real flowers like that outside!!!

Another new item..

This I did a re-do and I put this in our bedroom, it is there for now but I am always changing things around!

Here is a crock that Mr. Hillcrest bought for me and I love. I feel blessed that my Husband and I have the same passion for the older things in the era of the 1800's.
I love to make our house a home with things that we love and we surround our self's with things we love. Our collection has grown through the years of old wooden bowls, crocks, jugs, old quilts, old antiques such as the old shaker rocking chair that we love,we also collect blue jars, we have 2 spinning wheels, mashers, samplers, firkins, old wooden boxes and wooden crates, yellow ware, red ware, coverlets and now we are collecting pewter. We also have colonial lights that we just love. The lights just give that warm and inviting feeling in our home.

When we walk in our home we feel like we have walked back in time and it is a great feeling of warmth and it is very inviting for our family and friends. When our family and friends say we just don't want to leave it makes you feel so good inside, because that is my goal to bring back that era.

I always loved the smell of a prim shop and now after all these years when you walk in it does smell like a prim shop. I had a luncheon for some of my prim friends and they noticed it right away and right there I knew I have done something right. We were going to go prim/colonial shopping but we were having such a great time eating and chatting and laughing that the time flew by so we will be making our shopping trip in a couple of weeks.

You can't beat having great friends and great food.
I leave you with this, a pillow that I made and I am proud of. I really enjoyed making it.

So my friends be kind to one another!!

Til next time...
Prim Blessings,
Tricia
